Stuart Slater is a photographer based in Brighton on the south coast of England capturing vibrant eye-catching Street Art and Automotive subjects that showcase beautiful and thoughtfully crafted designs.
He first attempted photography with a borrowed Kodak Brownie in pursuit of a Cub Scout badge at ten years old. It would have ended better if he’d known you needed film in the camera.
It wasn’t until joining the Royal Navy at 16 that he could afford his own Kodak 110 Instamatic, bought to catalogue his adventures sailing around the world.
A stopover in Gibraltar saw that replaced by a Praktica SLR and undaunted at failing the aptitude test for the Navy’s Photography Department his growing passion for photography was soon furthered by a move up to an Olympus OM1.
He left the Royal Navy in 1990 but disheartened by trends in photography and caught between the limitations of film and digital his priorities moved elsewhere, not least a growing family.
It wasn’t until the mid 2010s that a developing interest in Street and Urban Art Photography motivated Stuart to once again pick up a camera and a rapidly enlarging repertoire now includes Architectural and Automotive subjects.
Stuart lives on the Sussex coast and recently discovered the world of Kitesurfing, as a spectator, and has embarked on a quest to photograph the local community.
The cameras he reaches for first are Nikon DSLRs and a Fujifilm medium format.
